    Server outage

We suffered a small server outage this morning (Australian time).   Apoligies to anyone who was affected.  This was due to 3 un related circumstances.

One of our Intrusion detection appliances had a failure this morning that caused degraded service between 9:30am and 12:10pm.  At this time we were experiencing a high level of user activity from a Brazilian blog post which in turn caused a server in Sydney to shutdown.  Normally a restart keeps this to just a couple of minutes however at exactly that time the power in our Brisbane development office (the whole block actually) went out.  A remote re boot was not possible.  A phone call and a mobile email to our data centre and we were back online.

    MVH Launcher Update

Today we released a very small patch to the MVH Launcher system.

This patch ads an auto flush mechanism for the main asset database.  This will help us to manage who has already download which assets and make sure there is no confusion within the database as we add or update products.

    In detail
If MVH didn't clear the asset database your index may report to us that you have an asset (3D Object) when in fact there is a new version of it.  By clearing the cache it causes MVH to requery the DB server and ask for the version number again.  This is a very quick query and does not download the asset again it just confirms that it has the right asset.

This is the first step of a larger asset management system set to be released with Version 2.3

    The next update - v2.01

With v2 out the door just 5 weeks ago we are getting ready to ship a small update (v2.01) very soon.  This is just a general bug fix of a few minor issues we have found since the v2 go live.

Along with the bug fixes we will also be adding:

    • Much faster downloads of HomeShare houses.  About 400% faster actually. :)
    • Network rendering.  (All things going well this will be added)  Network rendering will be a commercial only release feature where offices with many PC's will be able to utilise all available resources to render (Lightmap) a house faster than ever before.

    Stay tuned
